The
name FUTURA was conceived for our Alpaca Stud over a bottle of wine to celebrate
the purchase of our first animals. We envisaged a future of paddocks filled with
fine fleeced alpacas so hence our logo of “looking
to the future “ also seemed applicable.
Now 16 years later we are well on the way to achieving
our goal.
Like many breeders we
started with 2 pregnant females with cria at foot and spent the first few years
on a small 5 acre property at Baldivis Western
Australia
.
Being amongst the first
few alpaca owners in
Western Australia
our enthusiasm and knowledge grew quickly as we were introduced to the world of
alpacas through buying, selling, breeding and showing.
By 1998 the alpacas were having a marked influence on
our life style and as their numbers grew so did our need for a larger property.
We found a suitable 30 acre property at Serpentine and proceeded to relocate.
For the next 7 years we concentrated on breeding up our numbers at the same
time as introducing some quality genetics through purchases and outside matings.
Two years ago the decision was made to retire from our
Perth
based retail business and become full time alpaca breeders which brings us to
today.
Futura Alpacas is now located in Albany Western Australia which is on the south
coast of W. A. approximately 450 kilometers from Perth. We have a lovely
undulating 100 acre property in excellent rainfall country with our alpaca herd
of 50 plus contently grazing on the lush pastures. We now have new purpose built
alpaca sheds, and facilities and are focused on offering quality alpacas and
service to new and existing breeders.
